Helping You Address Your Private Sexual Needs

Make Sure Your New Sex Toys Are Made Of Body-Safe Materials

Before buying your first sex toy, whether it's a vibrating strapless strap-on dildo, a stroker, or a g-spot toy, you need to make sure that you understand body-safe materials and why they are so important when it comes to sex toys. So, what are body-safe materials, and why should you make sure that your new sex toy is made of one of these materials?

Body-Safe Materials

These are materials that are non-porous and have no toxic chemicals like phthalates. You don't want to use porous materials when it comes to sex toys because those materials will absorb fluids, dirt, and bacteria. It is incredibly difficult to clean those toys and get rid of those things, so as you use them again and again, you are getting a dose of bacteria. They can't be disinfected by boiling them or using cleaning products because they will melt. Non-body-safe materials also leach chemicals like phthalates, which your body can absorb. In fact, those materials can actually melt together if they are stored so that they are touching.

Examples of Porous Materials

Many of the more common sex toy materials are actually porous. Those can include things like latex, rubber, jelly, and PVC. One easy tip to telling if the material is body-safe or not is if it is really soft or jiggly, it is likely not body-safe. If you are unsure, you can take a look at the product and see what it is made of. Do be aware that it can be hard to tell sometimes, because some manufacturers will come up with proprietary blends, so the package may not say that it is made out of rubber. When in doubt, you can ask a clerk at the toy store or look for more information on the website about what the material is. One word of warning, while 100% silicone is a body-safe material, and many sex toys are made of it, a silicone mix is porous, so it's important to check on any toy that says it's silicone.

When you are thinking of buying sex toys, you want to make sure that the toys are safe to use, are going to last you a long time, and are as high quality as you can afford. The best way to do that is to find toys that are made out of non-porous, body-safe materials, like 100% silicone, borosilicate glass, metal, or ABS hard plastic.
